The aim of this initiative is to join together those who oppose torture into a formidable force with a common goal: mobilizing national grassroots action to urge the Presidential candidates and both political parties to adopt “Reject Torture” planks in their party platforms.
The initiative's circle is growing larger, from its seed in the concern of two citizens, a 79 year old and a 27 year old, agonized by our country's use of torture in the war on terror.
To list each name already involved would give the impression that
- this is an organization, which it is not,
- the circle is closed, which it is not.
As you join the initiative, one other thing: we are non-partisan. No matter which candidate or which political party wins the election in November, it will take Americans of all political persuasions to halt our use of torture, to transform the institutions that sustain it, and to ensure that once again torture has no home in America.
